Model train enthusiast Dwight Folderol this week unvieled the
world's largest model train
layout. He poses here with the
trestle he built over a river in his backyard. "The track is four
feet
eight and half inches wide – by far the widest track of
any model train layout in the world," he states with
pride.
When it's pointed out that 4 ft 8.5 inches is, in point fact,
the exact measurements of standard
gauge railroad track,
Foldoerol is momentarily taken aback. "You're saying that
my model railroad isn't
a model, it's a railroad?" he asks,
watching as a steam-puffing locomotive pulls boxcars
around an enormous
oval. He shakes his head. "Wish I'd
thought of that. It would have been a lot easier just to
buy an
old train than to make one from styromfoam and
siding. But what are you going to do?"
