"We're rebranding Count Chocula as a breakfast cereal for adults,"
General
Mills Marketing Director Victor Ovechkin explained in a recent
interview with Cereal Digest. "It makes sense on every level. Bram
Stoker didn't write
Dracula for children, after all; he wrote it for adults.
The
'count' figure is popular with adults in our demographic; his royal
title and brooding
good looks give the cereal an upscale feel, and the
'Chocula' surname is exotic but approachable.
The Count is a character
who insists on only the finest grains and refined sugars for the products
to
which he lends his name," Ovechkin notes. "We feel confident that
'breakfast with
the Count' will become a morning tradition for adults.
It is without question the very finest
chocolate-flavored miniature
marshmallow cereal on the market today."
