The Becalming Rabbit strode down Main Street in Andres, New York,
over
the weekend, filling all who saw him with an overwhelming
sensation of calm
and well-being. "The moment I looked at him, I just
had this sense, this
feeling that everything is going to be all right –
in Andes, in New York,
in the country, in the world," said local
potter Maria Nowen. Leopold
Nunn, above, posed for a picture
with the obliging bunny. "My wife and I
were having lunch with
some friends in the bar at the Andes Hotel," Nunn
said. "The
place was full of mountain bikers. After a while a bunch
of biker
bikers came in, motorcycle bikers, and a fight broke out
between
the mountain bikers and the biker bikers. Just
when everything was approaching
mayhem, this little bunny
poked his head in the bar and everybody stopped. He
stared
at everybody silently for a while, and then one of the biker
bikers
started singing the chorus to 'Alice's Restaurant', and
then before
you knew it everyone had joined in, bikers
and biker bikers alike. And then the
bunny moved on."
