If you missed Auction Night at the Rutting Elk Country Club
earlier this month, all I can say is: shame on you!
This year's raffle and auction was a roaring success,
thanks in large part to the comic stylings of Rutting
Elk
auctioneer 'Bang Bang Charlie' (who looks an awful lot
like our own Stewart Morrison in suspenders
and a straw hat!).
'Bang Bang' kept everything moving with his fast-paced patter and
side-splittings
asides. The biggest winner of the night? That would
have to be Cecil Froward. Cecil outlasted a blistering biddng war
to
claim a Pillsbury Dough Boy cookie jar full of cookies baked
by Social Director Dorothy Feeney and signed
by club president
Gavin Dill. Soon thereafter he won the South of the Border
Sangria Pitcher, filled with sangria
made by our own 'Sangria Senorita',
Dorothy Pullman. But his biggest win was his victory in the tussle for
the
portrait of Rutting Elk Stakes winner Preening Fop by that king of racetrack
Picassos, Rutting Elk's
own horsey Holbein, Errol Flynt. Well done, Cecil, but
watch out – we'll all be stopping by your place for
Sangria and cookies soon!
