Inspired by Second Life, Word of Warcraft, James Cameron's Avatar
and
Edmond Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac, Marmaduke Wales announced
this
morning that he would henceforth be replaced by a simpler, more
more streamlined cartoon
version of himself. "It's still me," Wales
insisted at a press conference at which
he sat side-by-side with his
cartoon self. "It's just Me Lite – the shaggy insouciance
you've come
to expect from Marmadue Wales, without all the extraneous character
complexity
that, let's face it, we'd all just as soon do without." Wales
laughed, his eyes twinkling,
as his anime doppleganger took a mock-
serious bow; and his new cartoon self laughed, too, his
perfect forelock
bobbing across his unlined forehead as he playfully tousled his
human
predecessor's hair before turning with a gleaming white grin
to take the next question from the
chuckling, nodding crowd.
