Study For Actors: The Subaquasphere
Marianne: It
frightens me, Tyrone.
Tyrone: [Laughing]
The Subaquasphere? You have nothing to fear
from
the Subaquasphere, my darling. The Subaquasphere is
is something to celebrate, not something to dread.
Marianne: Will it truly carry you beneath the very waves?
Tyrone: [Laughing] Neptune himself never surveyed his watery dominion
in such comfort! I shall be as safe and warm as I explore the
very depths of the Atlantic as though I were sitting at home in
my study beside the fire.
Marianne: It's remarkable – the very thought that a man can follow the dolphins
to very the depths of the briney sea.
Tyrone: [Running a loving hand along the copper skin of the Subaquasphere]
It is remarkable, Marianne. Remarkable indeed. I shall be
brother
to the giant squid, comrade to the tunny
fish.
Marianne: I suppose they shall
think you a great, gleaming copper whale.
Tyrone: I suppose that they shall. I don't wonder that I shall be crowned King
of the Undersea World.
Marianne: Is that likely?
Tyrone: [Laughing] Likely? Why, I should think it to be inevitable! Behold,
the great copper whale that bows to no man! The gleaming metal
Man o' War that makes a subject of the sea!
Marianne: I didn't know that fish could have such thoughts.
Tyrone: [Laughing] And nor did they! For they had not seen
the Subaquasphere.
But now they shall
see it – and think such very thoughts!
Marianne: Oh, Tyrone.
Tyrone: [Pulling
Marianne close] I know, Marianne. I know.
