Religions present themselves to us as ab original,
as a priori:
but were we to circle the world like satellites, thousands
of
miles above the earth in the Clarke Belt – and were the advent
of relgions to flare
like sunspots on the surface of the globe –
the world would appear to to us be aflame, in spits and
starts, from
east to west without ceasing. One such religion (or cult, to give failed
religions the name that history bestows upon them in hindsight)
is the White Jumper Cult. White Jumper
Cult founder Annette
de la Deluge believed that she could immanetize the eschaton
by wearing a white
plastic jumper, and encouraged her devotees
to to the same. But the eschaton, alas, remained emphatically
unimmanetized just the same; a consumation that proved
every bit as
discouraging to the upstart messiah as it did
calmng to we, the great unwashed.
