Vyper Drak founded Käärme Yoga ten years ago
in New York
City. From a single studio on West 13th Street,
Käärme has grown to include more than
a hundred studios
in dozens of cities across the United States and Europe.
Unlike
most yoga practices, Käärme does not use
a repertory of standard poses or 'asanas'.
Instead,
Drak stands at the front of the studio and improvises
asanas on the spot, which
his followers then attempt
to replicate. "Yeah, it's a skill I have, thinking up poses,"
Drak says. "Here. I'll do one now. Hold on." Drak
leans forward and widens his eyes. "There.
Like that.
Now all it needs is a name." Drak frowns for a moment.
"I think I'll
call it Water Rushing Over Rocks in Green Fields.
The Water Rushing Over Rocks in Green Fields pose. Here,
hold on, take my picture. We've got to
get this out to the
franchisees. We're rolling this one out today."
